This course is delivered over two days, and is designed to provide the knowledge and practical skills for a trainee to carry out basic chainsaw maintenance, chain sharpening and the safe cutting of logs.This training course will also provide, the required training for a trainee to undertake the NPTC City and Guild certificate of competence 0039-20, chainsaw maintenance and cross cutting.The NPTC assessment will require an additional half day if undertaken.

The training also deals with the processing of felled trees and how to deal with a hung tree (undertaken with hand tools), where one tree has been felled into another tree.
